When there is no way out from check your king is in a trap you loose and this is situation that we call Checkmate. The game is over.. Checkmate situation is describe below.
Stalemate – draw game. This is situation when enemy make move and block you king but your king is not on check and you can make any other move by other pieces because they are also block. It is simple situation look on the picture below to understand it better.

The same position in game repeat tree times.
It is impossible to give Checkmate because of not enough pieces. For example white have only knight and king and black have only king there is no way to give checkmate so this is draw.
